Jean-Pierre Barou was part of a small group of Sartre’s friends who were committed to a radical political fight that pushed France to the verge of explosion during the events of May ’68. He was one of the founders, with Sartre, of France’s left-wing newspaper Libération, and in 1975 published a now legendary book about labor strikes in France, Gilda je t'aime, à bas le travail (Éditions Gallimard)).
