Lawyer, professor of law, former French Attorney General (1981 - 1986), and finally President of the Constitutional Counsel (1986 - 1995), Senator Robert Badinter has written several books including a biography of Condorcet (Fayard, 1989), a play on Oscar Wilde (Actes Sud, 1995) and Un antisémitisme ordinaire: Vichy et les avocats juifs, 1940-1944 (Fayard, 1997).
