Eun-Ja Kang is of Korean descent and lives in Dijon, where she obtained her Ph.D. in French literature. The Promised is her second novel. Her first book, Le bonze et la femme nantie was awarded a literary grant by the Fondation Cino del Duca and the Bourgogne Prize.
