Michel Prigent / CEO of Presses Universitaires de France (1951-2011)
A former student of the École Normale Supérieure, Michel Prigent completed a PhD in Literature before starting his career at Presses Universitaires de France (PUF) in 1974, eventually becoming its Editorial Director, then in 1994 Chairman of the Board.
Under his leadership, the PUF have earned recognition as one of the foremost publishers in the Social Sciences in France. Their authors include Freud, Bergson, Spinoza and Badiou, Deleuze, Canguilhem to name just a few. Michel Prigent is responsible for growing the Press by investing in an ambitious and innovative reference collection.
Michel Prigent has been deeply involved in new technologies to promote the diffusion and exchange of ideas in the social sciences worldwide.
