Description
In March 2000 at the Lisbon summit meeting, the European Union gave itself a new strategic objective for the next decade: «To become the most competitive and dynamic economy of knowledge, capable of durable economic growth accompanied by a quantitative and qualitative improvement in the workforce and by greater social cohesion.» L’Economie de la connaissance analyzes the evolution of developed societies toward an economy founded on knowledge. This knowledge relies both on a long-term tendency—that of increased resources for the production and transmission of knowledge, and on a major technological event—the arrival of new information and communications technology. The work also presents the economy of knowledge as a discipline whose tools and concepts allow us to confront problems posed by these transformations.
