Description
Since the beginning of the twentieth century, Morocco has been at the crossroads of many influences which have profoundly transformed the country. In the last few years, the double political transition, which occurred with the arrival of the opposition in power and the succession to the throne of Mohammed VI, embodies Morocco’s constant change. In Le Maroc en transition, Pierre Vermeren analyzes the consequences of colonization and the organization of the Maghzen (the Moroccan government). He also studies the numerous evolutions, which contributed to the transformation of Morocco, such as the increasing role of women and the affirmation of Berber groups, and underlines its social injustices, difficulties in becoming a developed country, and Morocco’s place on an international level. Remarkably well documented, Le Maroc en transition presents the many facets of Morocco’s complex situation, which is in complete opposition with widespread cliches found in most documents and tourist guides.
