Madame Baroncelli's Journey
Laura Baroncelli is 50 years old. At the moment she realizes her relationship with her husband has become a web of lies, he dies in a car accident with his mistress. Laura is now determined to leave the "tolerable hell" her life has become by putting an end to it. Everything is in order, even the suicide note. But just as she prepares to slit her wrists, she notices an inexplicable footprint on the floor. Abandoning her suicidal plans in order to solve the mystery, Laura reflects on the stages of devastation that have made up her life. Gabriel Osmonde describes with striking sensitivity this slow process of erosion, the succession of submissions and disappointments. He paints a moving portrait of a woman at age 50, her fears, doubts and dreams, in this ultimately uplifting and liberating novel.
