Description
By age 18, Antoine already understood that no matter what else happened in his earthly existence, he would still eventually die. Some philosophers believe it is this certainty of death that makes us embrace life, or at least gives us the compulsion to keep going. Not so far Antoine. The certainty of death brings him to order himself a tombstone and purchase a cemetary plot. By age 35 Antoine retires to an old-people's home. After putting aside their doubts as to his sanity, the staff of "Les Jours Heureux" accepts Antoine. He is the life of the party, the sex-toy of the nurses, and the best friend of "Alzheimer". But his real love is Mireille, a newcomer with only months to live. Though Antoine may have fled life and its challenges, including a wife and two children, he is not afraid to face death head on. Fulfilling Mireille's final wish, he kidnaps her for a week and takes her to the edge of the sea, to a quaint hotel, where she can die to the sound of the gulls and the scent of salt air.
