The Star-Shaped Polygon
Editions du Seuil
Le polygone étoilé is considered the founding text of modern Algerian literature. Blending oral and written tradition, Kateb Yacine offers, in what is his ultimate work, a multi-dimensional kaleidoscope of independent Algeria. A melange of prose, poetry and theater, Le polygone étoilé is a polyphony of pain and violence which echoes from one side of the Mediterranean to the other. Both historical and mythical, its sumptuous writing and beautiful poetry takes us into the life and dreams of a fragmented people.
Kateb Yacine : Kateb Yacine was born in Constantine in 1929. He is considered one of the founding fathers of modern Maghrebian francophone literature and initiated the renewal of Algerian theater in spoken Arabic. He won the Prix national des Lettres in 1988.
