The Way of Blood
Le Serpent à Plumes
A whirlwind fresco covering two continents and one hundred years of history, The Way of Blood is the first novel by French-American author Theo Hakola, written in English. In Idaho, we meet young Peter, who is convinced that he is part Native American, due to supposed infidelity on his great-grandmother’s part; in Andalusia, the strikingly beautiful Esperanza and her brother Miguel Angel play out their roles in the Spanish War; in Paris, a tired artist bequeaths his studio to an eager American student upon his suicide. We ultimately discover that these passionate characters are deeply connected. Hakola paints three strikingly different tableaux with a bold, poetic style, blending history, humor and contemporary psychology.
