Description
Needless to say, Les Juifs ont-ils un avenir raised much controversy when it came out in France last year. Esther Benbassa and Jean-Christophe Attias, both French Jews and a husband-and-wife team of historians specializing in Jewish history, try to answer this delicate question by looking back to the thousand-year-old question of Jewish identity. In the style of a Socratic dialogue, Les Juifs ont-ils un avenir explores the evolution of Judaism from its origins until now questioning all the while the idea of one people, one religion, and one culture. Also at issue is the relationship between Judaism and other monotheist religions, the nature of the Jewish genocide and a redefinition of Judaism.
