Description
This volume brings together twelve tales on the theme of the double, focusing on one alternating male or female character each. In them we encounter an entire host of split-personalities, characters who become other people’s understudies, doubles who multiply into an infernal breed, taking us on a dizzying journey in which each person is trapped, and therefore seeks tirelessly to free him or herself. Ultimately, however, they find themselves deadlocked into an endless and repetitive cycle. Each tale is a small, infernal machine: rigorous and pitiless, in which the outcome is often fatal. All attest, in the end, to the near impossibility of expressing thought, of going on, and, ultimately, of succeeding.
