Description
How did a young student at the University of Humboldt, a philosopher and philologist specializing in Greek prosography, become the leader of one of the world’s great revolutionary movements? Based upon the seven years during which Karl Marx became author of “The Communist Manifesto” and later, the monumental "Das Kapital", this book is an intellectual biography of his youthful beginnings. It chronicles his years in Paris and Brussels, his memorable ruptures with different mentors and protectors such as Friedrich Engels and Ludwig Feuerbach, and finally, his ambivalent relationship with his putative spiritual father, Georg Hegel. Using a fresh and original sociological approach, Jean-Louis Lacascade brings this little-known period in Marx’s life to the forefront.
