Description
In a room of the Borgo San Sepolcro palace in Italy, a woman tells the man she loves an enchanting story to keep him close to her. Commissioned to go to Rome to paint for the Church, the famous painter Piero della Francesca will stay by her side to hear her recount the tale of the Queen of Sheba -Bilqis- and her meeting with King Solomon. Her words inspire him, and instead of working on painting the Pope's apartments as he was asked to, he fashions a masterpiece in the San Francesco of Arezzo Chapel, recreating the age-old story as she told it. The two parallel accounts which constitute this beautiful novel establish an imaginary link between the Italian Renaissance and Oriental mysticism where death threatens to strike and power imposes itself. Love appears where it is least expected and a child is born to bring back hope.
