Description
This new biography of Saint Francis of Assisi recounts the exceptional destiny of this rich Italian merchant's son, who gave up a successful career in the army, and everything he had, to follow God. Disinherited by his father, living only off charity, poverty became his constant companion as his sole duty was to help the poor. Disciples soon flooded to Francis until in 1209 the Pope approved him, and he could spread officially the word of God. Despite persecution from the religious and the community, Francis, helped by his followers, kept preaching successfully all around the world, reaching Palestine, before returning to his hometown and dying there in 1226.
The author not only gives a very instructive portrait of Saint Francis of Assisi's spiritual life, but also shows his deep human dimension. The inserts of his disciples' testimonies all troughout the book renders the text vivid.
