Description
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Django Reinhardt's death, only a few authors have ventured to bring the life of one of the most mysterious musicians of the last century to light. In his book about the great guitarist, Patrick Williams brilliantly takes up the challenge with both a scientific and original approach. It is not so much the biographical aspect of Django Reinhardt's life that the author analyzes but the forces and tensions that made the genius' work so unique. The enigmatic nature of the musician's personality grows while his talent becomes more and more obvious. The author sheds interesting light on how the various encounters and life experiences of the musician helped his particular style to assert itself. Patrick Williams draws the portrait of a man who was perceived as a character of legend but seemed never have worried about recognition, the world of a master who made possible the unthinkable synthesis between jazz and gipsy music.
