Le jardin dans l’île is a compilation of ten short stories each different from the other yet united by their exploration of an indefinite past where memory blends with the present to the point where each become indistinguishable from the other.

Le courtier Delaunay (Delaunay the Broker) is a surprising antiquities broker who manages to find everything his client is asking for without leaving his apartment. Histoire du pâle petit jeune homme (Story of the Pale-Faced Young Man) is about a strange biographer, Château naguère (Yesteryear Castle) tells of an old woman’s bittersweet search for her past with her driver in tow, while Le jardin dans l’île (The Garden in the Island) tells of the brief affair between a man and a woman he comes to conquer on the island where she lives.

These stories are all imbued with mystery and simplicity, and the author manages brilliantly to describe a fantastic universe that is never horrifying or oppressive.
