Description
Michel Butor, the famous French nouveau roman novelist and essayist, recipient of many awards, published Octogénaire upon reaching the age of eighty. This long poem, made up of eight parts, reveals Butor’s abiding closeness to nature and to the world around him.
The various parts carry titles such as “Amoroso,” “Night of the Roses,” “Sign of the Times,” and “Elsewhere,” and are illustrated with the black-and-white line drawings of Butor’s favorite artist, Gregory Masurovski. Together they form something of a testament by Michel Butor on the era he has witnessed.
