A Few Shadows
Éditions Le Dilettante
A collection of eight short stories revealing Charras’s attentiveness to human weakness, perceptive compassion, and disabused idealism.
In “Petit nid d’amour” the narrator is lovingly preparing the apartment that his pregnant girlfriend has chosen to be their love nest. But with one word uttered by her, the place suddenly loses all its charm. In “Les lauriers,” a farcical prize ceremony, an actor ends up completely embarrassing himself. “A une passante” is the story of a photographer who discovers a beautiful naked woman in the center of a photograph he took of a group of students. In “Rendez-vous,” René has a date with a girl he hardly knows but already loves. He is worried that the café where they are supposed to meet has disappeared—till he understands that the girl he is supposed to meet is not coming. …
Pierre Charras likes to linger in the shadows, analyzing all our disillusions, fears, and hopes with devilish tenderness.
