Bare Feet is an elegant novel about the quest for self and freedom through one man’s exploration of sadomasochism.

On a February morning in 198*, a successful and happily married advertising executive in his early thirties, K., accidentally connects to an S&M site. To his surprise, he chooses to stay connected and answers a personal ad. Still recovering from an anger-provoking incident at his office, he decides to ignore his conscience and shows up barefoot, embodying the very pseudonym he used in the ad. Daniel, a very well-mannered and distinguished man in his fifties, awaits him for an S&M session in his fancy apartment on the rue du Bac in Paris. K. follows his orders, curious, and very aroused. Once he leaves, he runs away as fast as possible, throws away Daniel’s phone number, and tosses his computer into the trash out of guilt and remorse.

In the following months, K. learns that he is going to be a father and dedicates himself entirely to his job and his wife. After a romantic vacation in Italy, though, he logs on to Daniel’s site. Daniel sets up a new meeting, warning K. that he won’t get away so easily this time.
